The Accidental Career
Everyone of us is capable of living a Life of Significance.
Growing up, Gene dreamt to be a doctor. However, being one who also seek adventure during his schooling days, his active involvement in ODAC as an Instructor during JC days and as a JCRC Student Leader in NUS Sheares Hall, diminished his chances of becoming a doctor.
As a career, Gene was focused on two elements: firstly, make a positive impact in people's lives and secondly, earn a decent income at the same time whilst having time for his family. His dad has always been an accountant whilst his mum was a homemaker. They had always done their best to provide for the family which Gene felt indebted to them since young. It was during Gene’s second year as an Undergraduate, when he realised that his dream of becoming a doctor is becoming slimmer that he was introduced to the Financial Advisory industry by Stuart and the rest is history.
Subsequently he joined Great Eastern Life upon his graduation from NUS in 2005. He enjoys working with responsible individuals by empowering them to take charge of their lives. He focuses on bespoke financial advisory process, tailoring his advice for clients on an individual basis, based on their present circumstances as well as their future plans. On top of that, he also continuously develops successful financial strategies to reach clients' dreams and goals. In his pursuit of excellence, this partnership with clients often resulted in a deeper friendship with his clients.

Living A Positive Impact in People's Life
Gene vividly remembers his first cancer claims, whereby a client shared on his lymphoma treatment. Throughout the hour-long conversation, the client
shared about how the family was coping and also updates on his chemotherapy treatments. He showed no signs of worry on the potential medical bill size because of the advisory work that was done right for him. It was evident then that the financial burden on the family was clearly not of concern to him but rather the peace of mind to focus on the recovery process. This incident showed Gene the true meaning of the work he does daily and the impact it has on every single of his client.

A keen believer in upgrading oneself, he is a certified Associate Estate Planner Practitioner and a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) since 2014 and more recently in 2017, being conferred the IBF Advanced (Level 3) by the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore.
With a passion to give back to the community on top of his financial services practice, Gene is also currently serving as an active grassroots leader in his constituency, chairing a Community Centre Management Committee as well as serving as a Vice-Chairman of Estate Committee under Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council. He is also appointed by the Ministry for Social And Family Development as a Licensed Solemniser for ROM since July 2018.
