Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.

About Me

With a sincere heart to want to make a positive impact in people's lives, Shuling embarked on a one-year internship at a medical device start up in Philadelphia, USA during her undergraduate days. She had wanted to gain more knowledge and hands on experience in the medical science area to be able to make a positive impact in people’s life. After graduation, she honed her research skill sets further in a drug company in Slough, UK for a period of one year.

Prior to being a financial planner at Great Eastern, Shuling was working as a scientist in a pharmaceutical company.

Why I do what I do?

She found her previous job meaningful and stable, but she always felt that there was something missing. It was lacking the human touch that she desired.

“The human touch is that little physical snippet of physical affection that brings a bit of comfort, support, and kindness. It doesn’t take much from the one who gives it, but can make a huge difference in the one who receives it.”

Making positive impact in people’s lives

She then made the mid-career switch decision, knowing that it’s a career that is nothing short of human interactions.

She remembered the personal stories that some of her friends shared with her when they met up; friends whose loved ones who suffered a stroke, friends who had undergone surgeries for removal of benign cysts or cancerous lumps, friends who had depression and anxiety disorders, friends who had congenital illnesses, friends whose parent left them early due to critical illnesses. The list goes on.

They also shared how worried they were of the hospital bills for the medical treatment they have to undergo, how difficult it is for them to get insurance

coverage due to congenital illnesses, how strong they have to become to get financially independentat a young age because the sole breadwinner had passed on.

This job has allowed her to feel closer to her friends now than before.

She is strongly convicted in the power of life insurance that allows her to be able to give the most help in catastrophic events. She had witnessed how an originally intact family had been thrown off the balance because of the unexpected passing on of the sole breadwinner. She had also witnessed how the family had to cope with the finances when someone in the family had to undergo the medical treatment for a critical illness; having the dilemma to want the best treatment but not being able to afford it.

What she can offer back then was just a listening ear, but she can do more than that now. she can deliver a promise that she has made, to take care of their family or themselves in times of life uncertainties. But for this promise to be made, she knows she has to be faster than her competitors (critical illness, old age, disability and premature death).

Doing the right things

Being a strong believer in what life insurance can offer, she continues to share the values to people around her. There were also the many heart-warming moments when her friends placed their trust in her and greatly appreciated her work and efforts. She believed that if she keeps doing the right things, the right outcome will follow naturally.
